Bloor West Village House

Renovation and Additions

This large 1930’s house on a beautiful tree lined street had not been updated in almost 50 years. A candidate for a complete gut brought some special challenges. The design concept included removing, restoring and re-installing all of the quarter sawn oak doors and trim work, a delicate process that gave the finished project a handsome traditional look.

We stripped the house down to the stud walls, excavated the basement and extended the rear of the house. The new floor plan included removing structural walls between the kitchen and dining room as well as enclosing a rear porch. A small second floor bedroom was added to the master suite and converted into an ensuite bath.

All new electrical, plumbing, drains, HVAC, roof and insulation on the exterior walls and roof brought the infrastructure into the 21st century. Other features included restoring the front porch, new kitchen and laundry appliances, cabinetry, lighting, landscaping and converting the detached garage into an outdoor dining space and storage shed.
